I am looking to re-power my 441. It currently has a Volvo D3 with 150 HP, which has always felt like far too much horsepower for what the boat needs. My gut instinct is that the Boat would be fine with 100 to 125 hp, or even less hp since it sails so well.
I will be happy to hear from anybody with a 38 or larger as to the power of their engine and whether they think they could use less or more.

    Hi Richard
I repowered my NC43 and went for a Beta 90hp. At max revs (2600rpm) its doing about 8.6kts which seems to be around hull speed. At 2000 rpm its doing about 7kts in flat water which is a nice cruising speed.
She displaces about 21tonnes wet and i dont feel tha more power woild be of any benefit and indeed might be detrimental as you would never be running the engine under load which isnt great for diesels.
    Best wishes Piers
